Everyday Objects 11/15/25

This is a drawing I made for a class at Texas State. The assignment involved taking pictures of household objects, then choosing specific objects as references to create a drawing that portrays a deeper message. In my home, I have a variety of small ceramic animals, as well as house plants. This gave me the idea to portray the struggles of balancing responsibility, with things I enjoy, specifically like nature. I tried to show this by putting objects I associate with nature in front, like my plant and animals. But above, I put objects that I feel represent responsibility, like my wallet, keys, and watch. The idea was to make it feel like there’s a desire to enjoy nature, but there are always responsibilities that hang over my head, or stay in the back of my mind. One of my classmates thought the theme was about growing up, since the animals look like toys, and the plant is growing upwards into more adult objects. I thought it was a really good take, and I almost like that theme more. I used charcoal pencils to achieve this drawing. Overall, I’m happy with how it turned out.
